“DANCING CAMERA” is a video dancing call for artists, within the program of ART SITE FEST, a festival dedicated to the contemporary languages of the arts, taking place in the historic residences of Piedmont. This year, the seventh autumn edition of the festival will involve some of the most prestigious local cultural institutions, with dozen of artists and hundreds of art works, including the disciplines of visual art, theatre, music and dance.

This year dance is represented by the call for artists “Dancing Camera”, dedicated to emerging choreographers expressing their art through the language of the video.

The call intends to give space and visibility to young artists who never stop creating through the audiovisual, despite the delicate and critical period of prolonged isolation due to Covid-19.

The open call is intended to select video art works based on choreography, where the filming aspect is not only documentary but it becomes an expressive means, supporting and completing the dance.

The call is addressed to all Italian and foreign professionals (directors, video makers, dance companies, performers and choreographers) who realized works of video dancing from the 1st of January 2021 to July the 31st, deadline of the call.

The selected art works will be uploaded on the digital Art Site Fest platform and exhibited during the festival the 12th of September in the honor hall of the Govone Royal Castle, a Savoy royal residence and UNESCO heritage site, together with other Art Site Fest activities.

Dancing Camera will be presented in Turin, September the 9th during Art Site Fest press conference. Photographs of the festival will be part of a catalogue, provided to the main online bookstores and to selected art bookshops in Italy.

To attend participants have to send not later than July the 31st at the email address dancingcamera@artsitefest.it the following material:

• The artwork’s WeTransfer link (1minute min – 7minutes max)
• An introduction short video (1 minute max) of both the author (with name and surname) and the work (i.e. “my name is…I’m presenting this work…)
• Author/s’s biography (director, choreographer, etc.)

The selected authors are requested to provide HD images of their works and an interview about their activity.The attendance to the present call is fully free, no economical commitment is demanded to the attendees.

The video will be produced in high quality (1080p minimum) and will last at least 1 minute and at most 7 minutes. It will have a standard video format (mov, Mp4, avi) and good quality stereo sound track.

1. Assessment. The jury will evaluate the best video respecting all the requirements and will upload the selected work on the festival platform
2. Material gathering. Images, worksheets and interviews will be gathered to produce a publishing project.
3. Inauguration. The festival will be launched September 12th 2021 in the honor hall of Govone Royal Castle, together with the publication.
4. Conclusion. The project will be presented during the contemporary art fair Artissima, taking place in Turin during the city contemporary art week.

The jury is composed by five experts in dance and visual arts: Alessia Gatta (director and choreographer), Domenico Maria Papa (critic and curator), Viola Pantano (artist), Paola Stroppiana (journalist and art critic), Luca Malvicino (Govone culture city councilor).

The evaluation criteria are the following: originality, film quality, visual coherence, structure and editing. A note of credit will be conferred to unpublished works. All criteria equally compete to the selection.

The selected authors would benefit from the exposure of the consolidated international event Art Site Fest.  The selected videos will be projected on big screen with high quality equipment inside the evocative spaces of the Govone Royal Castle’s honor hall. A part from a web dedicated platform, a press conference and the media coverage, a color publication is planned for this project, and it will be distributed to the main on line bookstores. The publication will be presented early November during the international contemporary art fair Artissima, in Turin and then in other Italian cities. The selected authors will be provided with three free copies of the book.

The required material has to be sent compulsorily within July the 31st to the email address dancingcamera@artsitefest.it.

Sending the material, the candidate declares the conveyed information and contents are true, he/she declares to own the authorization for using the images of all the protagonists appearing in the audio-visual artwork (dancers, directors, musicians, graphic designers, etc.). When selected, the candidate commits to declare the ownership of the rights and to draft a consent form for the material conveyed (videos, images, texts, etc.) for the purposes of promotion, communication and distribution, as specified in the present call.

Only proposals in compliance to the call requirements would be considered as valid. It is specified that the jury judgment is irrevocable.
